Great Strips! - Christmas Blasphmony

It's the day of Jesus', our lord and savior, birth! Of course, it's actually not--Jesus was born in the summer and Christmas is just a Christianization of the Roman holiday, Saturnalia. So really, it's the perfect day to disrespect the lord that never is, was, or will be.

I think our friend Ivan Brunetti can help illustrate how the Christian God is a disgusting lie! This strip is from Schizo #1.

And more!

Great Strips! - Public Service Announcements pt. 2

Here's some more PSAs! Don't call people names, even if they are tiny. You're selfish, that's why your parents hate you! Now you're catching on! Very funny!

Great Strips! - Public Service Announcements pt. 1

I found a bunch of public service announcements in DC's Weird House of Mystery. Gosh darn are they silly. Be your own boss and do homework early. Don't be obnoxious when you shop; be docile, consume efficiently. More soon!

Great Strips! - Please Kill Me!

I just found out about Ivan Brunetti, the angriest cartoonist in all of Chicago (and perhaps the world). I'm preparing a longer exploration into his work, but right now read this hilarious strip about how human beings are trash.

Great Strips! - Mighter

Here's a quick wordless comic from Vertigo's re-invention of Weird War Tales, issue 2. Peter Kuper illustrates the idea that the pen truly is mightier than sword, an that might will one day kill us all. I love comics that remind readers the world is so close to ending...

Great Strips! - Time Will Tell!

Here's another EC Horror story, this time with a cool sci-fi twist! I really prefer the art in this to the story. I find something about being trapped in an hour glass horrifying.

Great Strips! - I Died Tomorrow!

Another classic EC tale. What if you knew your own death, what would you do to stop it? Would you escape your fate? No. Probably not.

Great Strips! - Second Childhood

A mad scientist creates an eternal life/anti-aging concoction (spleen hormone) and decides to inject himself so as to better marry his supple, young lab assistant. Of course, it goes horribly wrong. This story is a lot like Benjamin Button, but way creepier and more sexual. I love it!

Great Strips! - Cycle

This creepy sci-fi story was published in horror comix classic Fantagor. I can't tell who wrote or drew it, though it is drawn in a very European style. It shows a horrible future where soldiers are made in laboratories. War never stops!

Great Strips! - Once Upon a Midnight Dreary

This story reveals the profound horror in tripping down the stairs of your basement. No one would hear you. You'd have no way to get out. I found it in DC's the Witching Hour.

Great Strips - Daniel Clowes Needledick!

Don't forget, Chicagoans, you can only go see the Daniel Clowes exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art until October 13. Now, here's some contemporary art.

Great Strips! - Breaking Bad Extra!

Everyone's excited for the Breaking Bad finale tonight. Let's converge our excitement upon a fan-made comic detailing what would happen if Walt and Jesse were paid to like Twinkies. This strip brings up a great point though: can we expect Breaking Bad comic book fan fiction? I hope so!

Great Strips! -- Daily Routine

I recently found out that Peter Bagge is going to be presenting a slideshow on Margret Sanger at Chicago's best bookstore, Quimby's Books. So, I've been re-reading Bagge strips and boy are they just a laff-riot! That is, laughter accompanied with chaos and violence. COME SEE BAGGE W. ME!

Great Strips: Misery is a Cigarette!

I found this weird public service announcement on the back of a Mad Magazine (specifically, issue 109). If you smoke, you'll get eaten by a shark, become a Nazi, and join the Klan. It's that simple.
